Web Ratna Awards have been founded by National Informatics center, Department of Electronics and Information Technology to give a thrust to exemplary initiatives in e-Government using the medium of Web.These awards are being conferred in different categories which touch upon different aspect of e-Governance right from web presence to delivery of citizen services to public participation and innovation in use of Technology.

The Government of TamilNadu has pioneered in delivering services to the citizens online by hosting a number of Services for many useful citizen centric services and the Government of TamilNadu Website proved it. The website services include dissemination of information, facilitating e-filing of returns, filing of Grievances online and monitoring the status of the same, booking of various services and making payments online.
